Is Verizon getting rid of landlines?
Your phone number can usually stay the same.
The new service may need electricity, so it may not work in a long power outage without a battery backup.
Devices that use the phone line, like medical alerts, home alarms and fax machines, may need to be checked or replaced.
You should get advance written notice before your service changes.
What to do if you get a notice
1. Keep the notice and write down the date.
2. Call Verizon using the number on your bill and ask what replacement service is offered at your address.
3. List everything plugged into your phone jacks.
4. Ask whether each device will work on the new service.
5. Test every device the same day you switch.
Is my landline from Verizon?
Check your phone bill. Many areas have a different local phone company, and landline changes depend on which company serves your home.
Scammers copy real news about phone changes. Never give payment, passwords or your Social Security number to someone who calls or texts you about your landline. Hang up and call Verizon yourself using the number on your bill.
